Why aren't there more theaters that show anime movies?

All my friends judge me because I enjoy episodes of Cowboy Bebop. They LOVED The Secret World Of Arietty until I told them that it was created by Studio Ghibli, which is in Japan, just dubbed over.

Non-Ghibli movies are only going to get limited distribution at best, and theaters don't do anything DVDs, BDs, and streaming don't do better. Not as long as they keep charging an arm and a leg for tickets and popcorn.
