The job market for STEM careers is always strong, the more suffering you do now the higher your quality of life will be when you graduate.

Was going to school for mechanical, switched it to programming and software design instead. I've spent too many years dealing with desk jockey engineers in factories that they killed my interest in it as a profession. After my degree I will probably finish up the engineering degree, simply because I do love creating things and seeing how they work.

Sanity is merely someone's perspective on your reality.

Can't see myself studying anything that practical. Plus, it's too much work. Everyone I know that studies engineering puts A LOT of effort into plugging things in, trying different formulas, and memorizing everything they need to know. As someone that studies math, I've learned that it's a lot easier to think about a problem for half an hour, and then get the details sorted out. Mathematicians put a lot of effort into being lazy, which is not even close to what an engineer should be doing. Although, all the engineering students I know are always bitching about how much work they need to do, but I feel like taking 3-4 upper level mathematics courses plus a couple of other classes is just as much work, but I love studying it. They will very likely make more money than me though, so whatever.

I just hope you don't buy into the cult of engineering which says that your current pain and suffering means others are ignorant slothful, incompetant or otherwise not worthy of your attention and respect. non- engineering professionals suffer for their accreditation too. Tradesmen actually make the plans of engineers into physical reality and know more than many engineer give them credit for. Hopefully you don't fall into the trap of actually believing "Friends don't let friends take arts" That was the trap preware germany fell into, at least according to Hitler's Architect Albert Speer, in his exculpatory biography "inside the Third Reich" |
