Cheddar potato stew with a fresh roll of sourdough, best on rainy days and cold nights.
Soft sourdough bread dipped into that rich bacony cheddar goodness is one of the highlights during winter...

I like tomato cracker soup. That's a regular bowl of tomato soup with a bunch of unsalted saltine crackers crushed in it. And only hot enough so that I don't end up with 3rd degree burns on the roof of my mouth and tongue. Pasta Fazul is also good with a thick cut slice of Italian bread. That works for me too.

Not only do I Iove hot soup, I love hot drinks and stews. This week I have made Vietnamese pork stew, seafood chowder, and Puerto Rican chicken and chickpea stew. I'm planning to make tofu miso soup later. I also love how you can make any kind of soup/stew with whatever is left in your pantry...especially when you don't feel like going out or grocery shopping, or when you're towards the last few bits of your food budget and you gotta make it stretch.

The craziest thing (well, one of) that I do is make kimchi every year. I don't know why I feel compelled to do it, it is always too much work, and I always regret starting making it, 'cause then I'm committed.....That's not as insane as when I made tofu. Talk about labor intensive.... but then again I've made pasteles, which is worse.... .....especially when it comes to hunting down the ingredients....I don't like to use parchment paper, 'cause I like the taste banana leaves impart.
